There were no surprises whatsoever regarding "Star Trek Beyond", which easily dominated the box-office, but "Lights Out" provided this week's big surprise. Meanwhile, "Ice Age: Collision Course" was a complete disappointment.

Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.

"Star Trek Beyond" opened with $59.6 million for a first place finish, but the result is actually less than the $70.1 million opening weekend for "Star Trek Into Darkness". Despite an overall positive reception (A- from CinemaScore and 84% on Rotten Tomatoes), this sequel simply failed to surpass its predecessor at the box-office. Internationally, "Beyond" has grossed $30 million in 37 markets, which is better than the 2009 "Star Trek", but still below "Into Darkness".

Illumination and Universal's "The Secret Life of Pets" dropped to second place this week with a strong $29.3 million in its third weekend. The film has now grossed $260.7 million domestically and $63 million overseas.

The "Ghostbusters" reboot dropped 53% and grossed $21.6 million for a third place finish. The film has grossed $86 million in the U.S. and an additional $36 million overseas versus a $144 million budget. It's okay, but not stellar.

At #4, the James Wan produced horror film "Lights Out" opened with a very strong $21.6 million versus a $4.9 million budget. The film scored well with critics (77% on Rotten Tomatoes) and audiences (B from CinemaScore).

Rounding up the Top 5 is the last of the new wide releases, the animated sequel "Ice Age: Collision Course" which grossed $21 million, the worst debut of an "Ice Age" film. The previous film in the series, 2012's "Ice Age: Continental Drift" opened with $46.6 million. However, "Collision Course" is doing quite well overseas, where it grossed $178 million from 60 markets, and is still waiting to be released in 17 other countries, including the big one, China. The film received some of the worst reviews in the series from critics (13% on Rotten Tomatoes), but moviegoers seemed to enjoy it (B+ on CinemaScore).

Another big surprise at the box-office is the appearance of Dinesh D'Souza's political documentary "Hilary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party" which expanded into 1,216 theaters and grossed 3.7 million for a ninth place finish. D'Souza's documentaries usually do well at the box-office, even if they're not exactly critical darlings. He obtained his best performance with the 2012 documentary "2016 Obama's America" which opened with $6.5 million and grossed $33 million after 13 weeks in theaters.
