Courteney Cox To Direct True Crime Thriller Evil Genius Starring Patricia Arquette David Harbour

Patricia Arquette ("Severance") and David Harbour ("Stranger Things") are set to star in the upcoming thriller "Evil Genius" directd by "Scream" franchise star Courteney Cox from a script by WGA nominee Courtenay Miles ("Mindhunter"). Inspired by the acclaimed true-crime documentary series by Barbara Schroeder and Trey Borzillieri, the film is produced by Aggregate Films and August Night. Cox previously made her directorial debut with the 2012 TV movie "Talhotblond", which was also based on a documentary by Barbara Schroeder.

The film chronicles the case of the infamous "pizza bomber", delving into the more deeply human story of deception, desperation, and the line between victim and villain. The cast also includes Michael Chernus, Garrett Dillahunt, Danielle Macdonald, Tom McCarthy, Gregory Alan Williams, Ryan Eggold, Owen Teague and Harlow Jane. Production is currently underway in New Jersey.

August Night will finance and produce the film with Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan and John Buderwitz under their Aggregate Films banner. Cox also serves as a producer.

Here's what Cox had to say about the project: "I've been fascinated by Evil Genius since I first saw the documentary. It's stranger than fiction. At moments darkly funny and yet deeply emotional. A story about love, loneliness, manipulation, and the people on the fringes who get pulled into something much bigger than themselves."

Harbour recently wrapped production on "Violent Night 2" for Universal, and is also attached to stars alongside Pedro Pascal in Tony Gilroy's "Behemoth!". He will next be seen starring opposite Jason Bateman in HBO's "DTF ST. Louis", which they both produced.
