Two-time Oscar nominee Ian McKellen ("The Lord of the Rings", "X-Men") and Emmy winner Tramell Tillman have joined the cast of Paramount's upcoming Charles Dickens adaptation "Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol". The film is a new take on the iconic story directed by Ti West ("X", "Pearl", "Maxxxine") from a script by Nathaniel Halpern ("Legion", "Tales from the Loop").
The film has been described as a ghost story set in Dickens' London that follows one man's supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance.
Johnny Depp is set to star in the titular role. The cast also includes Andrea Riseborough. While not officially confirmed, it has been reported that Tillman will play the Ghost of Christmas Present. The release date has been set for November 13, 2026. Emma Watts is producing. Executive producers include Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Adam Bohling and David Reid.
A second adaptation of Dickens' "Christmas Carol" is being developed by Warner Bros and directed by Robert Eggers ("Nosferatu", "The Witch"), with Willem Dafoe starring as Scrooge.
