Taylor Sheridan ("Yellowstone", "Sicario", "Hell or High Water") and Peter Berg ("Lone Survivor", "Deepwater Horizon") have joined forces to co-write the script for Paramount and Activision's live-action feature film adaptation of the "Call of Duty" video game franchise. Berg will also direct.
Plot details have not been revealed and the movie does not have a release date yet. Sheridan, Berg and 101 Studios' David Glasser will produce the project. Berg and Sheridan previously worked together as producers on "Wind River" and "Hell or High Water". The latter earned Sheridan an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
The military first-person shooter franchise "Call of Duty" hails from Microsoft-owned video game publisher Activision and includes more than 30 games released since the first "Call of Duty" in 2003. While the current deal is focused on making one movie, it also includes the potential for Paramount to expand the "Call of Duty" universe across film and TV. Previous reports claimed that Paramount had turned down a pitch from Steven Spielberg to helm the film.
Sheridan is also working on his ongoing shows "Lioness", "Landman", "Tulsa King" and "Mayor of Kingstown". It was recently announced that Sheridan will move his overall pact from Paramount to NBC Universal in 2029.
The next entry in the series, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7" will be released on November 14, 2025.
