Theaters everywhere caught a breath of fresh air over the weekend with the best 3-day of 2025, so far, as the video game adaptation "A Minecraft Movie" surprised everyone with a record-breaking debut. Meanwhile, "The Chosen: Last Supper Part 2" and "Hell of a Summer" received semi-wide releases this weekend and made the Top 10.

"A Minecraft Movie" opened in first place with a massive $162.7 million from 4,263 theaters, besting the $146.3 million debut of "The Super Mario Bros" and breaking the video game movie opening record. It also very narrowly topped the $162 million opening of "Barbie". It's also the biggest opening of 2025, so far. The film also raked in another $150.7 million internationally, which adds up to a worldwide debut of $313.4 million. With a production budget of around $150 million, the film is already turning a profit after its first weekend, which is a rare feat these days. While critics didn't love it much (48% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences seemed to like it well enough ("B+" CinemaScore).
The Jason Statham flick "A Working Man" dropped to #2 with $7.3 milion, down 52.7% in its second weekend. The film has now grossed $27.8 million domestically, with another $37.5 million overseas bringing its global tally to $65.3 million.
"The Chosen: Last Supper Part 2" opened in third place with $6.9 million from 2,313 theaters, which is lower than Part 1's $11.8 million debut last week. Meanwhile, Part 1 dropped 83.9% and fell to #7, grossing $1.8 million in its second weekend for a total of $17.9 million, which makes it the highest grossing installment in "The Chosen" theatrical releases.
Disney's "Snow White" continues to struggle in its third weekend, landing in fourth place with $5.9 million, which is a steep 58.5% decline. Officially a flop, the film has now grossed a total of $77.3 million in North America and another $91.3 million from foreign markets. That's $168.6 million worldwide against a a $270 million budget.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the Blumhouse horror film "The Woman in the Yard" with $4.5 million. The film dropped 51.9% in its second weekend and its domestic cume has now reached $16.6 million.
In eighth place we have another new release, the horror comedy "Hell of a Summer", co-directed by and starring Finn Wolfhard ("Stranger Things"). The film, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023, was originally set to be released on April 18, but was moved up by Neon. It scored a $1.7 million debut from 1,255 theaters.
