"American Beauty" and "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes' ambitious Beatles project that includes four individual biopics for each band member will be released theatrically in April 2028. Mendes confirmed the release schedule at CinemaCon, and confirmed the cast: Paul Mescal stars as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan is playing Ringo Starr and Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon.
Here is the official logline: "Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary." The multi-part biopic is officially titled "The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event" and Mendes describes it as "the first binge-able theatrical experience". He also added: "We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house".
This is a passion project for Mendes, who has been trying for years to tell the story of "the greatest band in history". He didn't want to make a miniseries and was concerned that "the story was too huge to fit into a single movie". So he came up with a plan to chronicle the band's story from the perspective of each of its members as four standalone features. Mendes says that this is a "chance to understand them more deeply".
It is also the first narrative project to be granted music rights to the Beatles' extensive catalog of hits. According to Mendes, principal photography on all four films will take no less than a year.
