A six-part "Pride and Prejudice" limited series is being developed at Netflix and casting is underway. "The Crown" stars Emma Corrin and Olivia Colman are set to play Elizabeth Bennet and Mrs. Bennet, respectively, while "Slow Horses" star Jack Lowden has joined the cast as Mr. Darcy. The series is said to be a faithful adaptation of Jane Austen's iconic novel and it will be directed by Euros Lyn ("Heartstopper") from a script by "Everything I Know About Love" author Dolly Alderton.
Production is expected to begin in the UK this year. According to the press release, "Dolly will bring to life Jane Austen’s iconic story for audiences that cherish it, whilst inspiring a new generation to fall in love with Austen for the first time". Corrin will make their debut as an executive producer on the project alongside Alderton and Lyn, as well as Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point. Lisa Osborne serves as producer.
Corrin added in a statement: "Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly's phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can't wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again."
Alderton said the following: "Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count 'Pride and Prejudice' as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy."
Lowden can next be seen in the fifth season of "Slow Horses", which is expected to release this year, with Apple TV+ having already commissioned a sixth. He is also set to star in Duncan Jones' sci-fi film "Rogue Trooper" and the dramedy "Ella McCay" which also stars Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson and Jamie Lee Curtis.
