Nick Frost To Play Hagrid in HBO's HARRY POTTER TV Series

Nick Frost Harry Potter Hbo Series

Nick Frost ("Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz") is reportedly nearing a deal to star as Rubeus Hagrid in HBO's upcoming "Harry Potter" series. The character was previously played by Robbie Coltrane in the films. HBO did not officially confirm the reports, and as with previous casting announcents, they simply stated the following: "We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals". Meanwhile, Frost posted a mysterious message on his instagram: "What a bloody lovely day! It’s happening, it's actually happening. Stay cool."

HBO plans to produce "Harry Potter" over the course of a decade, adapting each of J.K. Rowling's books into a season of television. Francesca Gardiner is showrunner and executive producer, while Mark Mylod will direct multiple episodes and executive produce. Rowling is also an executive producer. Production begins later this summer in Leavesden, UK. The show will debut on HBO and Max in 2027.

The cast, so far, includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu who is in negotiations to play Severus Snape, as well as Janet McTeer, who is in final negotiations to star as Professor Minerva McGonagall. The roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron will likely be played by newcomers, as Warner Bros. launched an open casting call for kids aged between 9 and 11 in the fall of 2024.

Frost was last heard as the voice of the swashbuckling droid SM-33 in Disney's "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew". He can next be seen in June in Universal's live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon".
