Hunter Schafer Joins Michelle Yeoh In BLADE RUNNER 2099 Series

"Euphoria" and "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" actress Hunter Schafer has signed on to star in Amazon's upcoming sci-fi series "Blade Runner 2099". Michelle Yeoh is also set to star in the series which follows up the 2017 movie sequel "Blade Runner 2049"

Production began overseas in the spring, following a delay of nearly a year due to the double strikes of 2023. While it was originally set to shoot in Belfast, the show ended up relocating to Prague following the work stoppage.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say Yeoh will play a character named Olwen, described as a replicant near the end of her life. The series is the latest expansion of the sci-fi franchise based on Philip K. Dick's seminal novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", which includes Ridley Scott's classic 1982 film "Blade Runner" and Denis Villeneuve's sequel "Blade Runner 2049".

Schafer was able to book the new show because the third season of "Euphoria" won't start production until later this year, and HBO in March has allowed the cast to take other acting jobs. The Season 3 filming schedule will now depend on actors' availability.

"Shogun" helmer Jonathan van Tulleken will be directing the first two episodes and also serve as executive producer. Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and is executive producing alongside Scott, Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Alcon's President of Television Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger from Scott Free Productions, Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra and Isa Dick Hackett. Film United is the production company in Prague.

Schafer recently wrapped production on the A24 feature "Mother Mary" opposite Anne Hathway and Michaela Coel. She can next be seen in Neon's horror thriller "Cuckoo".
