"Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World" star Chris Pratt is set to voice the lazy orange feline in a new animated feature film. The film is being produced by Alcon Entertainment, while Sony Pictures will handle the global theatrical release (excluding China). No release date has been set at this time. DNEG Animation will animate and produce the film.
The untitled project based on the long-running comic strip created by cartoonist Jim Davis will be written by David Reynolds ("Finding Nemo") and directed by Mark Dindal ("Emperor's New Groove"). Davis will executive produce alongside Bridget McMeel from Amuze, Craig Sost, John Cohen ("Despicable Me"), Steven P. Wegner, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
Garfield previously appeared on the big screen in live-action/animated hybrid "Garfield" in 2004 and its sequel, 2006's "Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties". In both films, the protagonist was voiced by Bill Murray.
Pratt has also signed on to voice Mario in Universal's new "Super Mario Bros" adaptation. He can next be seen in "Jurassic World: Dominion"
