Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" dominated the Christmas extended weekend box-office, but still has some difficulty in rising to the levels of its predecessors. Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig's "Little Women" surprised everyone with a strong five-day performance.

Unfortunately, the animated film "Spies in Disguise" came in slightly below expectations. But, an even bigger surprise comes from the Adam Sandler drama "Uncut Gems" which expanded nationwide and scored some big numbers for A24.

Find out more about the weekend box-office after the jump.

"Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" topped the box-office charts for a second consecutive weekend with $72 million Friday-to-Sunday, and a total of  $135 million for the 5-day extended weekend. The film dropped 59% from its $177 million debut, which isn't unusual for blockbusters of this magnitude, but with a $361.7 million domestic 9-day total, the trilogy capper is struggling to keep up with "Last Jedi", which had already grossed $464 million after two weeks in theaters.

"The Rise of Skywalker" also added another $94.3 million internationally this weekend for a $363 million overseas total. Its worldwide cume has now reached $725 million.

In second place we find Sony's sequel "Jumanji: The Next Level" which received a 33% boost for Christmas and grossed $35.3 million over the 3-day time frame and $59 million for the 5-day weekend. The film's domestic tally has reached $175 million, while overseas it added $61.6 million for an international cume of $296 million.

The first of the new wide releases, the period drama "Little Women" opened in third place with $16.52 million for the 3-day and  $29 million for the 5-day, beating industry projections of a $16-17 million 5-day debut. The film also raked in $6.3 million internationally. "Little Women" has received rave reviews from critics (95% on Rotten Tomatoes and 91 on Metacritic), and a solid audience reception ("A-" grade from CinemaScore's opening day polls).

"Frozen II" also received a 27% Christmas boost, finishing the weekend in fourth place with $16.5 million. The animated sequel raked in $26 million over the 5-day time frame, and it has now grossed a total of $421.2 million domestically. Its overseas cume now stands at $796.3 million.

The Top 5 is rounded out by Fox's new animated film "Spies in Disguise" which opened with $13.5 million over the 3-day weekend and $22 million for the 5-day extended holiday. It's not an impressive performance, but the film might do better in the next weeks since it has received a generally positive reception from moviegoers ("A-" from CinemaScore's polls), while critics gave mostly mixed-to-positive reviews (72% on Rotten Tomatoes and 54 on Metacritic).

Rian Johnson's "Knives Out" received a hefty 50% boost and grossed $9.7 million this weekend and $16.6 over the extended 5-day period, which brings its domestic total to $110.2 million.

Another impressive holiday performance is that of the drama "Uncut Gems" starring Adam Sandler, which expanded nationwide after a solid limited debut, and continues to impress with an $18.8 million 5-day wide launch, which brings the film's domestic tally to $20 million.
