Piper Perabo Joins PENNY DREADFUL Spinoff at Showtime

Piper Perabo Joins PENNY DREADFUL Spinoff at Showtime
Former "Covert Affairs" star Piper Perabo has joined the cast of Showtime's "Penny Dreadful: City of Angels" in a recurring part. The spinoff series has been describes as a "spiritual descendant" of the original "Penny Dreadful" which was set in Victorian-era London.

The new series in set in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension, where a grisly murder is investigated by Detective Tiago Vega, who becomes embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city’s first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.

Perabo will star as Linda Craft, wife of Dr. Peter Craft, played by original series star Rory Kinnear and mother to Trevor (Hudson West) and Tom (Julian Hilliard). Her character is described as "a fading American Beauty rose, disappointed with her life and husband, and bored with her constrained suburban life."

"Penny Dreadful" creator/writer John Logan will return to assume the same duties on the new show, and will executive produce alongside Michael Aguilar ("Kidding"). Original series helmer Paco Cabezas will also return to direct multiple episodes. Production on the show began in August.

The cast also includes Lin Shaye, Natalie Dormer, Michael Gladis, Nathan Lane, Daniel Zovatto, Lorenza Izzo, Adam Rodriguez, Thomas Kretschmann, Dominic Sherwood, Ethan Peck, Kerry Bishé, Adriana Barraza, Brent Spiner, Amy Madigan, Hudson West, Julian Hilliard, Jessica Garza and Johnathan Nieves.
