It was business as usual with a few surprises as the Primtime Emmy Awards winners were announced on Sunday. "Game of Thrones" dominated the evening with 12 wins, including the big one for Best Drama Series, while another HBO show, the miniseries "Chernobyl" also won big, scoring 10 trophies, including the big three: writing, directing and limited series.
A big surprise was Amazon's "Fleabag", which took home four wins: best comedy series, lead actress in a comedy series and writing in a comedy series (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), and directing (Harry Bradbeer). Also, "Ozark" received some love on Sunday night, with Julia Garner winning supporting actress in a drama against four "Game of Thrones" stars, and Jason Bateman taking home the directing award.
Big snubs include the final season of "Veep", which was completely shut out of Sunday's awards, and Ava DuVernay's Netflix limited series "When They See Us", which only took home two awards, for lead actor Jharrel Jerome and casting, out of a total of 16 nominations.
The overall results for the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, including the Creative Arts Emmys, are as follows: 34 wins for HBO, 27 for Netflix, 15 for Amazon, 8 for National Geographic, 7 for NBC, and 5 each for CNN and FX.
