Franchise helmer Justin Lin ("Fast & Furious 6") will return to direct from a script by Dan Casey. The idea for the story was conceived by Lin and Alfredo Botello. Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron are reprising their roles.
New additions to the cast include John Cena, Finn Cole, Anna Sawai, and Latin music star Ozuna. The latter is also in talks to join the film's soundtrack. Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson who starred in the spinoff "Hobbs & Shaw" will not appear in the new sequel.
"Fast & Furious 9" is scheduled to open in theaters on May 22, 2020.
