"Big Little Lies" star Zoë Kravitz has signed on to star as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman in the upcoming DC Comics movie "The Batman".
The character has been previously played on the big screen by Anne Hathaway ("The Dark Knight Rises"), Halle Berry ("Catwoman"), Michelle Pfeiffer ("Batman Returns"), and Lee Meriwether ("Batman: The Movie"). On television the role was played by Camren Bicondova in "Gotham", and by Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt for the 1960s Batman TV series.
The film will be directed by "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "War for the Planet of the Apes" helmer Matt Reeves, and it will star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, following Ben Affleck's departure. The cast also includes Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Jonah Hill in an unknown villain role. (UPDATE: Hill is no longer attached to star in "The Batman").
The screenplay is co-written by Mattson Tomlin and Reeves. Production is expected to begin in January in London, UK. The release date has been set for June 25, 2021.
Zoë Kravitz can be seen in the upcoming Hulu series "High Fidelity", and will also appear in the romantic drama "Viena and the Fantomes", which stars Dakota Fanning.
