Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde to Star in Clint Eastwood's RICHARD JEWELL

Olivia Wilde And Jon Hamm To Star In Clint Eastwoods Richard Jewell

Jon Hamm ("Mad Men") and Olivia Wilde ("Tron: Legacy") have joined the cast of Clint Eastwood's fact-based drama "Richard Jewell".

Previously titled "The Ballad of Richard Jewell", the film is based on the true story of a security guard who was falsely accused in the bombing that took place at Atlanta's Centennial Park during the 1996 Summer Olympics. Jewell was originally hailed by the media as a hero for alerting the police to the presence of a bomb and helping to evacuate the area, but later became a prime suspect in the bombing investigation, and his life was completely upended as a result. He died in 2007 of a heart attack at age 44.

I, Tonya" and "BlacKkKlansman" actor Paul Walter Hauser is set to star in the lead role. Oscar-nominated "Captain Phillips" writer Billy Ray penned the screenplay based on Marie Brenner's 1997 Vanity Fair article.

Wilde will star as real-life reporter Kathy Scruggs who reported on the event, and Hamm will play an FBI agent who investigated the bombing. The cast also includes Sam Rockwell as Jewell's defense attorney, and Kathy Bates as Jewell's mother. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill had previously been attached to star. DiCaprio is still on board as a producer.

Wilde recently starred in the revenge drama "A Vigilante" and also made her directorial debut with the R-rated comedy "Booksmart". Hamm recently starred in "Bad Times at the El Royale" and "The Report", and will next be seen in the upcoming "Top Gun" sequel.
