Disney scored a major win this Memorial Day weekend as "Aladdin", their latest live-action remake, topped the charts with an impressive debut. Meanwhile, the superhero horror film "Brightburn" and the comedy "Booksmart" opened according to expectations, although their performances were largely unremarkable.

Find out more about the weekend box-office after the jump.

"Aladdin" scored an impressive $86.1 million from 4.476 theaters, ahead of the studio's initial projections of $75 million, and that figure could reach up to $105 million for the extended holiday weekend, making it the sixth-highest Memorial Day weekend ever. Overseas, the film opened with a solid $121 million from 56 markets. The film received mostly mixed reviews from critics (58% on Rotten Tomatoes and 54 on Metacritic), while moviegoers loved it ("A" grade from CinemaScore's opening night polls).

In second place we find the third chapter of the "John Wick" saga, which has added another $24.3 million this weekend after a 57.1% drop, and will probably end up with a total of $30 million for the four-day time frame. "Parabellum" has so far grossed $100.9 million domestically. Internationally the film brought in $24.8 million over the weekend from 74 markets and its overseas tally has reached $74.4 million.

Disney's "Avengers: Endgame" finished in third place with $16.8 million, with expectations of a $22 million total for the four-day weekend. Its domestic tally currently stands at $798.1 million, while overseas the film has amassed a massive total of $1.879 billion. With a global total of $2.677 billion, "Avengers: Endgame" is just $111 short of surpassing "Avatar" as the highest grossing worldwide release ever, a title that the latter has held for a decade.

At #4 we find Warner Bros' "Pokemon Detective Pikachu" with $13.3 million. The film has grossed a total of $116.1 million domestically and $236.8 million overseas.

The Top 5 is rounded out by the R-rated horror flick "Brightburn" which opened with $7.5 million from 2,607 theaters, a result that is slightly below Sony's expectations. The film is expected to gross as much as $9 million for the four-day weekend. On the bright side, the film only cost $6 million to produce. Overseas, the film raked in $4.5 million from 50 markets this weekend for an international total of $7.8 million. "Brightburn" received a generally mixed response from both critics (59% on Rotten Tomatoes and 45 on Metacritic) and moviegoers ("C+" grade from CinemaScore).

Another new wide release, the R-rated comedy "Booksmart", opened in sixth place with $6.5 million from 2,505 theaters. The film received high acclaim from critics (97% on Rotten Tomatoes and 85 on Metacritic), and moviegoers mostly liked it ("B+" grade from CinemaScore).
