"American Woman" is a new comedy series created by
"30 Rock" and
"The Comeback" writer
John Riggi and inspired by the childhood of
"The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star
Kyle Richards.
The series follows Bonnie Nolan (
Alicia Silverstone), an unconventional mother struggling to raise her two daughters (
Makenna James and
Lia McHugh) after leaving her husband (
James Tupper) amid the rise of second-wave feminism in the 1970s. With the help of her two best friends, Kathleen (
Mena Suvari) and Diana (
Jennifer Bartels), these three women each discover their own brand of independence in a glamorous and ever-changing world reluctant to give it.
"American Woman" premiered on June 7, 2018 on the Paramount Network. The series has receives mostly mixed reviews from critics.
