Ewan McGregor has signed on to star in the horror film "Doctor Sleep", the sequel to Stephen King's classic "The Shining". The film will be directed by Mike Flanagan ("Gerald's Game") for Warner Bros. The studio has been working hard to bring both this film and a prequel titled "Overlook Hotel" to the big screen for years, but thanks to the huge success of last year's "It", projects based on King's books are now being fast-tracked. The script for "Doctor Sleep" was originally penned by Akiva Goldsman, and rewritten by Flanagan.

McGregor will star as the adult version of Danny Torrence, the tortured kid with psychic powers who survived the Overlook Hotel tragedy and has grown up to become a reflection of his murderous father, filled with rage and a drinking problem that interferes with his "gift". When he embraces sobriety, his powers return and he establishes a psychic connection with a young girl who shares his extreme abilities, and who is being targeted by a group with similar abilities who have learned of a way to increase their own powers by killing others who have the power to shine.

McGregor can be seen this year in Disney's "Christopher Robin", a live-action adaptation of "Winnie the Pooh".
