It's no surprise that "Spectre" stormed the box-office, despite the mixed reviews that suggested a step down from "Skyfall", but the James Bond epic still suffered a bit of a drop. Meanwhile "The Peanuts Movie", a relative unknown by comparison, performed well enough to take a considerable bite out of Bond's earnings. Overall, the weekend box-office improved by 148% compared to last week.

The 24th Bond film, "Spectre" opened with $70.4 million in the U.S., quite a drop from "Skyfall"s $88 million opening weekend. Still, no tears should be shed for this lucrative franchise as this latest installment has already pulled in $219 million from international markets. The budget, however, is equally impressive. Production costs are estimated at $245 million, which means the movie needs to score some impressive numbers to turn in a significant profit, and while internationally it's doing okay, the domestic ticket sales could be a problem.
In second place, "The Peanuts Movie" impressed over the weekend with a $44.2 million debut versus a $99 million budget. Based on a comic strip that ran from 1950 to 2000, the film introduced the characters to a new generation successfuly. Overseas the film only grossed $4.5 million from eleven countries.
At #3, "The Martian" continues to have a strong grip on its audience, dropping only 22% and bringing in an additional $9 million. The domestic total has now reached $196.8 million and it's officially Ridley Scott's highest grossing U.S. release of all time, as well as his highest grossing worldwide release with a total of $458.5 million.
New Wide Releases: "Spectre", "The Peanuts Movie".
