It was a bad weekend for "Pan" but a great one for "The Martian". While the former flopped, the latter still topped the charts.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
"Pan" was pretty much doomed before the start of the weekend. Expectations were low as soon as the first reviews came in. What nobody expected was that the movie would perform so badly. The Peter Pan prequel opened in third place with a devastating $15 million versus a $150 million budget. Even overseas, the film only grossed $25 million. That's comparable to the box-office failures of "Jupiter Ascending" and "Fantastic Four".
Ridley Scott's "The Martian" is still the #1 movie at the box-office with a weekend gross of $37 million which brings its domestic total to $108.7 million. In overseas markets, the film has reached a $119 million total.
"Hotel Transylvania 2" follows closely behind at #2 with $20 million over the last three days and a domestic total of $116.8, which is still on track to outgrossing the original film.
An unpleasant surprise was provided by Robert Zemeckis' biopic "The Walk" which after a pretty decent limited release, only managed a #7 position with $3.6 million for its wide release debut. Still, the film only cost $35 million to produce.
The biopic "Steve Jobs" provided some impressive results for Universal. The film brought in $521,000 from only four theaters. The film will receive a partial wide release next week, and will finally debut nationwide on October 23.
New Wide Releases: "Pan".
Biggest Drop : "Black Mass" (-46.5%)
Smallest Drop : "The Intern" (-25%)
