"Crazy Rich Asians" pulled off an incredible feat over the weekend and continues to dominate the box-office charts. As for the new releases, the dark crime comedy "The Happytime Murders" and the sci-fi adventure "A.X.L." failed to impress.

"Crazy Rich Asians" provided a surprise holdover at the top of the charts, grossing $25 million over the weekend. The film dropped just 5.7%, which is among the smallest all-time second weekend drops. It has grossed $76.8 million in 12 days domestically, while overseas, the film has grossed $7.1 million from 18 countries.
"The Meg" is also going strong, finishing in second place with $13 million. The film has grossed $105.3 million domestically and $303.3 million internationally.
The first of the new releases, the dark comedy "The Happytime Murders" starring Melissa McCarthy opened in third place with a weak $10 million. The film took a heavy beating from critics (23% on Rotten Tomatoes and 27 on Metacritic), and audiences were in agreement according to CinemaScore's "C-" grade.
"Mission: Impossible - Fallout" finished in fourth place after a 26% drop, grossing $8 million over the weekend. The film has brought in $193.9 million domestically and another $344.8 million overseas.
Disney's "Christopher Robin" rounds out the Top 10 with $6.3 million. The film has raked in $77.6 million after 24 days in theaters and another $35 million from overseas markets.
Another new semi-wide release, the sci-fi adventure film "A.X.L." opened in ninth place with a disappointing $2.9 million. The film received negative reviews from critics (22% on Rotten Tomatoes and 31 on Metacritic), while CinemaScore reports a decent "B+" grade from their audience polls.
In other news, the "Papillon" remake starring Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek opened outside the Top 10 with $1.15 million from 544 theaters. Another limited release, the thriller "Searching" starring John Cho grossed a healthy $360.000 from just 9 theaters, and is expected to expand nationwide next weekend.
