Marvel scores another win with the latest MCU installment "Ant-Man and the Wasp". Meanwhile, "The First Purge" scored a decent debut, but the lowest in the franchise, so far.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp", the twentieth installment in the MCU, opened in first place with $76 million. This is a $20 million improvement on the first film's opening weekend. Overseas, the film opened with an estimated $85 million. "Ant-Man and the Wasp" received positive reviews from critics (86% on Rotten Tomatoes and 70 on Metacritic), and CinemaScore reports an "A-" grade from their opening night polls.
In second place we find "Incredibles 2" with $29 million. The sequel has topped $500 million domestically, becoming the first animated feature to achieve this milestone.
"Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" dropped to #3 with $28.5 million. The film has grossed $333.3 million domestically and another $725.3 million internationally, crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Another new wide release, the horror action film "The First Purge" opened in fourth place with $17.1 million over the weekend, and a total of $31 million in the five days since its release on Wednesday. The weekend gross is the weakest in the four-film franchise, but with a small $13 million budget, the Blumhouse production is still a solid success. The film has received mixed reviews from critics (54 on Metacritic) and a decent "B-" grade from CinemaScore.
The Top 5 is rounded out by "Sicario: Day of the Soldado" with $7.3 million. The film registered a steep 61.6% drop. Its domestic cume now stands at $35.3 million after 10 days.
