James Gunn's "Superman" is stil the #1 movie at the box-office in its second weekend, not least of all due to the underperforming new releases. The new films released over the weekend included the slasher horror reboot/sequel "I Know What You Did Last Summer", the animated film "Smurfs", and Ari Aster's dark satire "Eddington".

"Superman" held its ground in first place with $58.4 million, a pretty decent 53.2% decline from its opening weekend. The film has so far grossed $236.2 million domestically and another $173.1 million internationally, which adds up to $409.3 million worldwide.
"Jurassic World: Rebirth" is also holding in second place with $23.7 million, a respectable 41.2% decline from last week. After three weeks in theaters, the film has grossed $276.4 million in North America and $373.2 million from foreign markets. That's a worldwide total of $649.7 million.
The horror film "I Know What You Did Last Summer" opened in third place with a disappointing $12.7 million from 3,206 theaters, and only added $11.6 million internationally. That's a weak $24.3 million global debut. The first two films in the franchise opened with $15.8 million in 1997 and $16.5 million in 1998. The reboot/sequel received a negative reception from both critics (38% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("C+" CinemaScore). On a positive note, the film only cost $18 million to produce.
The animated film "Smurfs" also failed to impress with a fourth place debut, grossing only $11 million over the weekend from 3,504 theaters. The international debut was also weak with only $22.6 million, which brings the worldwide tally to $33.6 million. The critical reception was terrible (19% on Rotten Tomatoes), but moviegoers were mostly mixed on it ("B+" CinemaScore).
The Top 5 is rounded out by "F1: The Movie" (down from #3) with $9.8 million. The film only dropped 24.4% in its fourth weekend, and has now grossed $153.9 million domestically, $309.2 million internationally and a total of $463.1 million worldwide.
The last of the new wide releases, "Eddington" opened in seventh place with $4.2 million from 2,111 theaters. The critical reception was mixed (68% on Rotten Tomatoes), and moviegoers didn't enjoy it much, either ("C+" CinemaScore).
