A new adaptation of Jane Austen's iconic debut novel "Sense and Sensibility" is in the works from Focus Features and Working Title, and its cast is shaping up quite interestingly. Daisy Edgar-Jones ("Twisters", "Where the Crawdads Sing"), Esmé Creed-Miles ("The Sandman"), George MacKay ("1917"), Caitríona Balfe ("Outlander") and Fiona Shaw ("Harry Potter" franchise) have joined the film, which has officially started filming in the United Kingdom.
The story follows follows sisters Elinor (Edgar-Jones) and Marianne Dashwood (Creed-Miles), who navigate love, loss and financial uncertainty as they are forced to leave their family estate in Sussex following their father's death. Balfe will star as their mother Mrs. Dashwood, MacKay is set to play Elinor's love interest Edward Ferrars and Shaw will portray Mrs. Jennings, whom the sisters stay with when they visit London.
The cast also includes Frank Dillane ("Urchin") as Marianne's initial love interest John Willoughby, Herbert Nordrum ("The Worst Person in the World") as her later suitor Colonel Brandon and Bodhi Rae Breathnach ("Hamnet") as the youngest Dashwood sister Margaret.
BAFTA nominee Georgia Oakley ("Blue Jean") will direct from a script by Diana Reid ("Love & Virtue"). The novel was previously adapted by Ang Lee into the 1995 Oscar-winning film starring Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, H and Alan Rickamn.
Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films will produce alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett.
