Weekend Box-Office: LILO & STITCH Continues To Dominate As BALLERINA Opens to $24.5 Million

Weekend Box Office Lilo And Stitch Ballerina

The live-action "Lilo & Stitch" movie effortlessly dominated the box office in its third weekend in theaters, while the John Wick spinoff "Ballerina" is off to sluggish start. Meanwhile, Wes Anderson's new film "The Phoenician Scheme" expanded nationwide, and the survival horror film "Dangerous Animals" failed to make the Top 10.

Read more about the weekend box office after the jump.

Disney's "Lilo & Stitch" is holding in first place for a third consecutive weekend with $32.3 million, down 47.6% from the previous frame. The domestic gross has reached $335.6 million, while overseas it adds another $436.8 million for a worldwide total of $772.5 million.

The R-rated action flick "Ballerina" starring Ana de Armas opened in second place with $24.5 million from 3,409 theaters. The spinoff's debut surpassed the opening of the original "John Wick" ($14.4 million in 2014), but fell below the opening weekends of Chapter 2 ($30.4 million in 2017), Chapter 3 ($56.8 million in 2019), and Chapter 4 ($73.8 million in 2023). Overseas, "Ballerina" only raked in $26 million, which adds up to a global debut of just $50.5 million. The film cost around $90 million to produce, which means the movie would need more than $150 million to recoup its costs. Both the critical and audience reception was mostly positive (75% on Rotten Tomatoes and "A-" CinemaScore).

"Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning" finished its third weekend in third place with $14.8 million, a 45.5% decline from last week. The film has now grossed $149 million in North America and another $301.2 million overseas. That's a global tally of $450.2 million, which makes it the third highest-grossing US release of 2025, ahead of "Captain America: Brave New World", and below "A Minecraft Movie" and "Lilo & Stitch". Unfortunately, with a $400 million budget, the movie has no chance of ever making any kind of profit.

Last week's new release, "Karate Kid: Legends" grossed $8.5 million in its sophomore weekend, dropping a steep 57.8%. The film's domestic total is now at $35.3 million, while internationally it raked in another $38.6 million. That's $73.9 million worldwide.

The top 5 is rounded out by "Final Destination: Bloodlines" with $6.4 million, down 40.8%. The film has grossed a total of $123.5 million domestically and $133.9 million internationally after four weeks in theaters.

The Wes Anderson movie "The Phoenician Scheme" expanded in 1,672 additional theaters and grossed $6.2 million over the weeekend, finishing in sixth place. Last week, the film had opened in six theaters to a solid $93,417 per-theater-average. In 2023, "Asteroid City" scored $9 million when it expanded to 1,675 screens. "The Phoenician Scheme" cost around $30 million to produce. The critical reception was positive (79% on Rotten Tomatoes), but the audience reception was lukewarm ("B-" CinemaScore).

In other news, the GKIDS release of "Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye" opened in eight place with $3.1 million from 1,085 theaters. And, outside the Top 10 we find the horror thriller "Dangerous Animals" which made its debut with $1.5 million from 1,636 theaters.
