Michael Cera ("Scott Pilgrim vs the World") is set to make his directorial feature debut with a star-studded absurdist comedy titled "Love Is Not the Answer". The project was launched by mk2 at Cannes. Cera also penned the script.
The cast includs Pamela Anderson ("The Last Showgirl"), Steve Coogan ("Philomena"), Fred Hechinger ("Gladiator 2") and Jamie Dornan ("Belfast"). The plot is being kept under wraps, but the fim has been described a "precise yet unpredictable, absurdist comedy that moves between hilarity and heartbreak as it explores modern loneliness and the search for connection".
Christine D’Souza Gelb, David Hinojosa and Kevin Rowe will produce through 2am, who have previously produced films like "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies", "Past Lives" and "Babygirl". mk2 Films are handling international rights and 2am and CAA Media Finance will oversee North America.
Cera is also looking to direct an adaptation of the novel "Masters of Atlantis" by Charles Portis.
