Tom Holland ("Spider-Man: No Way Home") and Austin Butler ("Elvis") will star in the upcoming racing drama "American Speed", a package that has landed at Amazon MGM Studios. Academy Award-winning producer Charles Roven ("Oppenheimer") is attached to produce via his Atlas Entertainment banner, alongside RD Whittington and Douglas Banker. Atlas Entertainment's Ryan Sanak will executive produce.
The screenplay is written by Dan Wiedenhaupt ("Alpha") and it's based on the true story of the Whittington brothers, three drivers, two of whom were part of the 1980s IMSA scandal, in which a number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with proceeds from drug smuggling, money laundering or tax evasion.
Holland is next set to reprise his role as Peter Parker in the fourth "Spider-Man" movie, and will lead Christopher Nolan's new film. Butler will next star in Ari Aster's "Eddington" and Darren Aronofsky's "Caught Stealing".
