"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire", the fourth installment in the fantasy comedy series predictably opened in first place at the box-office, and scored a solid debut on the higher end of expectations. Two new semi-wide releases also hit theaters: the horror films "Immaculate" and "Late Night With the Devil".

"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" was the #1 movie at the box-office with $45.2 million from 4,345 theaters, which is slightly ahead of the $44 million debut of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" in 2021, which was a challenging year due to the pandemic. The sequel also cost more to make, with a production budget estimated at $100 million, while its predecessor had a smaller $75 million budget. The new film definitely needs strong legs if Sony hopes to make another sequel. Overseas it raked in $16.4 million from 25 markets, which brings the worldwide debut to a total to $61.6 million. "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" received mixed reviews from critics (45% on Rotten Tomatoes), and an okay reception from moviegoers ("B+" CinemaScore).
"Dune: Part Two" is holding in second place with $17.6 million, down 38.3% from last week. The domestic total has now reached $233.3 million after four weeks in theaters, while overseas its tally now sits at $341 million. That's a total of $574.3 million worldwide.
"Kung Fu Panda 4" landed way behind in third place. The film grossed $16.7 million over the weekend, which is a 44.3% decline from the previous frame, and it brings the film's domestic cume to $133.2 million. With another 134.9 million from foreign markets, the worldwide total has now reached $268.1 million. Previous films in the franchise usually grossed around $500-600+ million, so the new installment is lagging behind considerably.
Another new release, Neon's horror film "Immaculate" starring Sydney Sweeney opened in fourth place with $5.3 million from 2,354 theaters. The film's low budget of $10 million makes this a potentially profitable project. However, while the film has garnered mixed-to-positive reviews from critics (72% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences mostly disliked it ("C" CinemaScore).
The Top 5 is rounded out by the Mark Wahlberg adventure movie "Arthur the King" with 4.3 million, a 42.9% decline. The film has now grossed $14.6 million.
The last of the new releases, the horror film "Late Night With the Devil" made an impressive debut in sixth place, grossing $2.8 million from only 1,034 theaters. Although not official, the film's budget is rumored to be less than $2 million. The critical reception for this one has been incredibly positive (97% on Rotten Tomatoes).
