Universal and Dreamworks' animated sequel "Kung Fu Panda" surpassed "Dune: Part Two" to become this week's new box-office champion. Among new releases we have the Blumhouse horror film "Imaginary" and Angel Studio's faith-based drama "Cabrini", which only managed so-so debuts.

"Kung Fu Panda 4" opened in first place with $58.3 million from 4,035 theaters. This is the best debut in the animated franchise since the first film opened in 2008 with $60.2 million. The second and third films in the series opened with $47.6 million and $41.2 million respectively. The new installment is also not particularly expensive with a somewhat modest $85 million budget. Overseas it raked in $22.2 million. "Kung Fu Panda 4" received a positive reception from both critics (70% on Rotten Tomatoes) and moviegoers ("A-" CinemaScore).
"Dune: Part Two" dropped to second place after only one weekend in first place. The film raked in $46 million in its sophomore frame, dropping 44%, which is a much lower decline than the first film's 62% second weekend drop. The sci-fi epic has now grossed $157 million domestically and $210.5 million overseas, which adds up to $367.5 million worldwide.
The horror film "Imaginary" opened with $10 million from 3,118 theaters, which isn't particularly impressive, but the film only cost $13 million to produce.
The biopic "Cabrini" makes its debut in fourth place with an uninspiring $7.5 million from 2,840 theaters. This one cost around $50 million to produce, and it looks like it won't recoup its costs.
The Top 5 is rounded out by "Bob Marley: One Love" with $4 million, down 45% from last week.
