Ridley Scott in Talks to Direct Paramount's Bee Gees Movie

The Bee Gees Picture

"Gladiator" and "Napoleon" helmer Ridley Scott is in talks to direct an upcoming untitled biopic that focuses on music group The Bee Gees. Scott will produce alongside producing partner Michael Pruss of Scott Free, Graham King through his GK Films banner and Stacey Snider.

The British Australian trio The Bee Gees became one of the top-selling musical acts of all time, rising to fame in the 1960s and '70s. Gibb brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice were behind hits such as "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart", "Too Much Heaven,", "Nights on Broadway" and "Stayin’ Alive". The Gibb brothers' story was most recently depicted in the 2020 documentary series "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart"

John Logan ("Gladiator", "The Aviator") will pen the script. Paramount is distributing the film worldwide, with Amblin and Sister having the right to co-finance. Barry Gibb, the last surviving brother, is executive producing. Siblings Maurice and Robin died in 2003 and 2012, respectively.

Over the years, several filmmakers have been attached to direct, including Kenneth Branagh and Lorene Scafaria ("Hustlers"). The latter took over after John Carney left in 2022.

Scott is currently in post-production on the studio's "Gladiator 2", which will open in theaters on November 22, 2024..
