Anne Hathaway to star in Robert Zemeckis' THE WITCHES

Anne Hathaway to star in Robert Zemeckis' THE WITCHES
Anne Hathaway has signed on to star in Robert Zemeckis' "The Witches", an adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1973 children's book of the same name. The novel was previously adapted into a 1990 film starring Anjelica Huston, as well as a radio drama, an opera, and a stage musical.

The story follows a seven-year-old boy who discovers a coven of witches led by the Grand High Witch (Hathaway), and must find a way to stop them before they complete their evil plan to eliminate all children by turning them into mice. Zemeckis will produce, write and direct the film. Guillermo del Toro was initially attached to direct, but will now produce alongside Alfonso Cuaron.

Warner Bros. is also developing another Dahl adaptation, a remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", which will be directed by Paul King ("Paddington").

Hathaway can next be seen in the thriller "Serenity" opposite Matthew McConaughey, and is also set to star in Todd Haynes's fact-based drama about the DuPont chemical pollution scandal.
