Allison Janney to Star in JJ Abrams Produced Thriller LOU

Allison Janney Picture
Academy Award winner Allison Janney ("I, Tonya") has signed on to lead the thriller "Lou" for J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. The film will be directed by Anna Foerster, whose resume includes helming episodes of "Outlander" and "Jessica Jones", as well as her feature film debut "Underworld: Blood Wars" starring Kate Beckinsale".

A tonal mix between "Thelma & Louise" and "Taken", the story follows a young woman and her hard-shelled, rule-breaking landlord, Lou (Janney), who team up to track down the former's child after the girl is kidnapped by the woman's estranged husband. Lou is able to help due to her impressive tracking abilities, and other uniquely useful skill sets. The script was written by "American Crime Story" producer/writer Maggie Cohn, with a revision by Jack Stanley ("Chronicle 2").

"Lou" was previously set up at Paramount, but is now in turnaround, with Bad Robot financing it as an indie film. Production is expected to begin Spring 2019. Abrams is producing with Braden Aftergood.

Janney has just finished work on "Bad Education" starring Hugh Jackman. She is also set to star in Tate Taylor's crime drama "Breaking News In Yuba County" opposite Laura Dern, and Jay Roach's untitled Roger Ailes Fox News movie.
