"Rogue One" and "Ready Player One" actor Ben Mendelsohn has joined HBO's upcoming supernatural thriller limited series "The Outsider" based on Stephen King's bestselling novel of the same name.

The series will focus on a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a local boy, which ultimately leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe to be real, as an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case.

There are no details regarding Mendelsohn's character. The actor will also executive-produce alongside Jason Bateman ("Ozark"), who will also direct the first two episodes. The ten-episode limited series is being co-created by Richard Price who previously developed the HBO miniseries "The Night Of".

Mendelsohn is also set to appear in Marvel's "Captain Marvel" opposite Brie Larson, Jude Law and Samuel L. Jackson. He has recently finished working on David Michod's "The King" where he stars as Henry IV, and has lent his voice to Blue Sky Studios' upcoming animated film "Spies in Disguise", and the single-player campaign "Squadron 42" of the long-in-development space-sim video game "Star Citizen". He is also on board to star in the comedy "Babyteeth" alongside Essie Davis.
