Michelle Williams to Play Astronaut Christa McAuliffe in THE CHALLENGER Movie

Michelle Williams Picture
Four-time Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams is set to star in the upcoming biopic "The Challenger" based on the 1986 space shuttle tragedy that claimed the life of seven astronauts. The Space Shuttle Challenger launched from Cape Canaveral on January 28, 1986 and exploded 73 seconds after takeoff, on live TV.

Williams will play Christa McAuliffe, a high school teacher from New Hampshire who was selected to join NASA’s Teacher in Space Project. She was honored posthumously with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. McAuliffe left a lasting legacy worldwide as the first teacher in space and many schools have been named in her honor.

The film will be directed by Martin Zandvliet ("Land of Mine") from a script by Jayson Rothwell. John and Art Linson, and Ben Renzo will produce. Production is set to begin in Spring 2019.

Williams can also be seen alongside Tom Hardy in the comic book adaptation "Venom". She also finished working on Bart Freundlich's "After the Wedding" remake, which also stars Julianne Moore and Billy Crudup.
