Venice Film Festival Complete Winners List

Venice Golden Lion Winner Alfonso Cuaron

Alfonso Cuaron was the big winner at the 75th Venice International Film Festival. His new film "Roma" was awarded the Golden Lion for best film. This is the first film Cuaron has made in Mexico since 2001's "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and the director has said that it was "something very personal, because we made a film set in the '70s, with many elements and experiences of my childhood".

The Silver Lion for best director went to Jacques Audiard for the darkly comic western "The Sisters Brothers" starring Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly. The Silver Lion Grand Jury prize was awarded to Yorgos Lanthimos for "The Favorite" starring Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone. Colman also won Best Actress for her role in the film, while Willem Dafoe received the Best Actor award for playing Vincent van Gogh in the biopic "At Eternity’s Gate.". The best screenplay award went to Joel and Ethan Coen's "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs".
