Henry Cavill to Star in Netflix WITCHER Series

"Batman v Superman" and "Mission: Impossible – Fallout" actor Henry Cavill" is set to star in Netflix's upcoming fantasy series based on "The Witcher" series of short stories and novels published by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The most recent novel, "Season of Storms", was published in 2013. "The Witcher" stories were also adapted into a very popular video game franchise, as well as comic books and tabletop games.

The series will follow Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a monster hunter who crosses paths with Yennefer, a powerful sorceress, and Ciri, the young princess of Cintra who holds a dangerous secret. Together they must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together. Netflix's announcement also states that Cavill is a "massive fan of Andrzej Sapkowski’s series of fantasy short stories and novels".

"The Witcher" will consist of eight episodes with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel's "Daredevil" and "The Defenders") serving as showrunner and executive producer. The first episode and three others will be directed by Alik Sakharov ("House of Cards", "Game of Thrones"), and the rest by Alex Garcia Lopez ("Luke Cage") and Charlotte Brändström ("Outlander", "Counterpart").
