As the 25th Bond film ended up being delayed following the departure of director Danny Boyle, the franchise's current star Daniel Craig has signed on to star in "Knives out", a new film written and directed by Rian Johnson ("Star Wars: The Last Jedi").
Described as a "modern day murder mystery" in the vein of Johnson's 2005 crime drama "Brick", the thriller will star Craig as a detective working to solve a case. The mystery is said to resemble Agatha Christie's classic whodunit style, with Craig's character designed as a modern-day Poirot.
Johnson stated the following regarding Craig's casting:
