Tron 3 Canceled by Disney

Although we first heard in March that Disney is moving forward with the long-delayed "Tron 3", it seems that the studio is now ready to give up on the project entirely. The news surged throughout the Internet with many publications reporting that the sequel is no longer in production. Furthermore, it seems that Disney never actually green-lit the project, in the first place.

"Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski was expected to return at the helm, and stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were set to reprise their roles. Reports about the cancellation also mention the fact that Jared Leto was in the running to star in an undisclosed role. Leto is now playing The Joker in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad".

Although it's probably heartbreaking news for the fans, the truth is that "Tron: Legacy" was not a huge breakthrough at the box-office and Disney does have some bad experience with costly blockbusters that flopped, for example "John Carter" and "Tomorrowland".

in-theaters-san-andreas-aloha-barely-lethal-gemma-bovery

In theaters this week we have two new wide releases. First is the disaster movie "San Andreas" starring Dwayne Johnson. The film has been getting a rather mixed critical reception, but I suppose the trailers are really enough for anyone to know if it's the kind of spectacle that they can enjoy. The second is Cameron Crowe's romantic dramedy "Aloha", which unfortunately is not the comeback everyone was expecting from the director of "Jerry Maguire". In limited release two noteworthy films are the teen action comedy "Barely Lethal" starring Hailee Steinfeld, Samuel L. Jackson and Jessica Alba, and the dramedy "Gemma Bovery" starring Gemma Arterton and Fabrice Luchini. More about each movie after the jump.

Synopses, details, critical reception, trailers, clips and more after the jump.

Gemma Bovery Trailer, Clips and Posters

The dramedy "Gemma Bovery" opens in theaters in the U.S. today, so we have a batch of previews for the film which includes the official trailer, two clips, five images and five posters. The film stars Gemma Arterton as the titular character, a British beauty living in a Norman village with her husband Charles Bovery (Jason Flemyng). Local baker and Flaubert fan Martin Joubert (Fabrice Luchini) falls in love with the beautiful Gemma, and he will soon discover just how much life sometimes imitates art.

Co-written and directed by Anne Fontaine ("Coco avant Chanel"), the film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Posy Simmonds.

Check out the trailer, clips, images and posters after the jump.

Barely Lethal Movie Trailer, Clips and Poster

The official trailer, five clips and a poster for the teen action comedy "Barely Lethal" have been released. Directed by Kyle Newman ("Fanboys") the film stars Hailee Steinfeld as a teenage special ops agent who yearns for a normal adolescence. So, she fakes her own death and then assumes the role of an exchange student in a typical American high school. However, she won't be able to stay hidden forever. The film is apparently a bit of a missed opportunity, according to the critics. Reviews suggest that the cast is solid, the premise is good, but it ultimately falters in execution and becomes an ambitious but flawed caper with some genuinely funny moments. Samuel L. Jackson, Jessica Alba, Sophie Turner, Jaime King, Toby Sebastian and Steve-O also star.

"Barely Lethal" begins a limited run in theaters this week.

Check out the trailer, clips and poster after the jump.

Aloha Movie Clips and Featurettes

Two new clips and making of featurettes for the romantic dramedy "Aloha" have been released. Written and directed by Cameron Crowe ("Jerry Maguire"), the film stars Bradley Cooper as a celebrated military contractor who returns to the US Space program in Honolulu, Hawaii where he reconnects with a long-ago love (Rachel McAdams) and unexpectedly falls for a hard-charging Air Force watchdog (Emma Stone) assigned to him. Although many expected this to be a return to form for Crowe, the film is a huge letdown. Reviews have been incredibly harsh and the general consensus is that the film is "meandering and insubstantial". No wonder there aren't more clips available online. The cast also features Bill Murray, John Krasinski, Danny McBride and Alec Baldwin.

San Andreas Movie Clips

The earthquake movie "San Andreas" opens in theaters today, so here are eight new clips from the movie. The film has been getting mostly mixed reviews, but I wouldn't worry too much about that, because disaster flicks are meant to be brainless fun. I have a particular fondness for the genre at its most outrageous (see "Volcano"), so I'm looking forward to seeing this one. Directed by Brad Peyton ("Journey 2: The Mysterious Island"), the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Archie Panjabi, Paul Giamatti and Ioan Gruffudd.

Sons of Liberty (2015) Miniseries new on DVD and Blu-Ray

Product Description: As riots consume the streets of Boston, a dangerous game plays out between a British governor and ringleader Sam Adams, which escalates to extreme measures-street brawls, black market dealings, espionage and murder. A sizzling, romantic affair percolates against a backdrop of rising civil unrest, the infamous Boston Tea Party and Paul Revere's legendary ride. From the Battle of Lexington, a clash between the dedicated colonists and the superior British Army ensues, and the colonies join forces as a single, united country in the most epic revolution of our time.

Chris Pine in talks to star in Wonder Woman opposite Gal Gadot
Chris Pine ("Star Trek") is in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros' "Wonder Woman". Pine would play Steve Trevor, the love interest of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). In the comics Trevor was an intelligence officer in the US Army during World War II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, the isolated homeland of the Amazons, and was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him when he returned to the outside world, thus becoming Wonder Woman.

The film is directed by Patty Jenkins ("Monster") who replaced Michelle MacLaren ("Breaking Bad"). The script has been written by Jason Fuchs ("Pan").

"Wonder Woman" opens in theaters on June 23rd, 2017.

First Macbeth Movie Clips and Images

Two new clips and a batch of images for Justin Kurzel's adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" have been released. Michael Fassbender stars as Macbeth, a duke of Scotland, who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife (Marion Cotillard), Macbeth murders his king and takes the throne for himself. Nominated for the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival, the film also stars Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Sean Harris, Jack Reynor and Elizabeth Debicki.

"Macbeth" is scheduled for release in the U.K. on October 2nd, 2015, but there is no released date available for the U.S.

Point Break Remake Trailer, Poster and Images

The first trailer, posters and images for the "Point Break" remake have been released online. The film stars Luke Bracey as Johnny Utah (formerly played by Keanu Reeves), a young FBI agent who infiltrates a team of thrill seeking elite athletes, led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez), who are suspected of carrying out a string of staggering crimes that kill innocent people and send the world's economy into a tailspin. Bodhi's role was played by Patrick Swayze in Kathryn Bigelow's original film.

The updated version looks more like a "Fast & Furious" movie than an actual remake, although 2001's "The Fast and the Furious" was in many ways similar to "Point Break". Which is funny considering F&F cinematographer Ericson Core is directing this. I don't care much for the over-the-top action scenes and bad CGI, but I absolutely hate the gloomy color palette that the filmmakers probably believe will make the movie look cool. It doesn't. It just looks lifeless. And the characters are supposed to live life to the fullest, so I would imagine they should have gone with some brighter, intense cinematography, instead of this bland mess. And speaking of characters, Bodhi as played by Ramirez seems to be anything but the charismatic leader he's supposed to be. It's also a bit weird how they decided to change hairstyles between the two protagonists. Bodhi now has the dark hair while Utah has the long blonde hairdo. If that's the best they can think of for a remake, they should have just given up on it.

The remake also stars Ray Winstone, Teresa Palmer and Delroy Lindo. "Point Break" opens in theaters on December 25th (2D and 3D).

Check out the trailer, poster and images after the jump.

The Loft (2015) new on DVD and Blu-Ray

Product Description: Karl Urban (Star Trek Into Darkness) and James Marsden (2 Guns) star in the tense psychological thriller The Loft, the story of five friends who conspire to share a secret penthouse loft in the city—a place where they can indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in the loft, and they realize one of the group must be involved. Friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned and relationships crumble as the group is consumed by fear, suspicion and murder in this relentless thriller. The Loft also stars Wentworth Miller (TV's Prison Break) and Eric Stonestreet (TV's Modern Family).

Dwayne Johnson Wedding Surprise

We can now add "Wedding Officiant" to the list of awesome things that Dwayne Johnson can do (he is now officially ordained). There'a actually some history behind this video, so let's start there. In 2013, during the press junket for "Pain & Gain", Nick Mundy, a member of the entertainment site Screen Junkies, got to act out his infinite love for The Rock, while basically ignoring everyone else during the interviews with the film's cast. Wahlberg looked especially hurt by Mundy's attitude. You can watch that trainwreck here. On the positive side, the event sparked a special kind of friendship between Mundy and Johnson that involved many more bizzare interviews.

In an interview for "Furious 7", Mundy asked if Johnson could be the best man at his wedding, which the actor declined. However, the Screen Junkies team and Johnson saw the opportunity of a lifetime for a special kind of surprise. And the results you can watch below:

First Images from Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN Starring Matt Damon

The first images for Ridley Scott's sci-fi drama "The Martian" have been released. Described as being "Cast Away" in space and based on Andy Weir's novel, the film stars Matt Damon as an astronaut who is presumed dead and left behind by his crew after a manned mission to Mars is derailed by a fierce storm. The film then follows the astronaut's struggle to stay alive, as well as the efforts of his crewmates, who are plotting a dangerous rescue mission, and the efforts of NASA scientists back on Earth. The script has been penned by Drew Goddard ("The Cabin in the Woods"). The film also stars Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara, Donald Glover, Sean Bean, Mackenzie Davis, and Michael Pena.

"The Martian" opens in theaters on November 25th.

Suicide Squad Batmobile Joker Set Videos

David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" is shooting in Toronto and the first set videos have begun surfacing online. The videos offer a very clear look at a sequence involving the Batmobile and what looks like the Jokermobile. It looks like Batman is hot on the trail of The Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and two of the videos feature short glimpses of the actors in full makeup. It had been rumored that Ben Affleck will be making an appearance as the Dark Knight in the film, and this is pretty close to a confirmation. The scene looks cool enough, and if I hadn't already known that this is a DC Comics movie, I would have assumed that Ayer's shooting "End of Watch 2". It will be nice to see how the director blends his taste for urban action with the superhero genre.

The film also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Viola Davis as Amanda Walker, Ike Barinholtz as Hugo Strange, Raymond Olubowale as King Shark and Jim Parrack as Jonny Frost. In unknown roles we have Alex Meraz, Scott Eastwood and Common.

"Suicide Squad" opens in theaters on August 5, 2016.
