Last week's faith-based drama "War Room" climbed to #1 while this week's new wide releases "A Walk in the Woods" and "The Transporter Refueled" stumbled in their opening weekend.
Find out more about the weekend box office after the jump.
Sony's "War Room" didn't settle with its initial second place debut and raced past "Straight Outta Compton" for a #1 weekend. The film took in $9.3 million, bringing its domestic total to $24.6 million versus a $3 million budget.
"Straight Outta Compton" is still going strong, even with a slight drop, grossing $8.8 million. The film now stands at $147.7 million at the domestic box-office. This also puts Universal in a very comfortable position breaking record after record. The studio has already surpassed Fox's overall record of $5.53 billion, set in 2014, a month ago and they still have three more months to go. Meanwhile, Universal's other big release, "Jurassic World" has crossed the $1 billion milestone overseas, joining films like "Avatar", "Titanic" and "Furious 7".
The new release "A Walk in the Woods" starring Nick Nolte and Robert Redford grossed $8.4 million, placing third and adding up to a 5-day total of $10.4 million. While not a major debut, the film only cost $8 million to produce.
The other wide release, "The Transporter Refueled" opened at #5 with $7.1 million, slightly below the still strong "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" which ended the week with $7.15 million. The Transporter franchise reboot cost $22 million to produce.
The big box-office surprise of the week is the Mexican 3D animated film "Un Gallo Con Muchos Huevos" (A Rooster with Many Eggs), which opened with $3.4 million at #8. The film also had the widest release for a Mexican animated film in history.
