Stephen Lang Joins Civil War Drama GETTYSBURG 1863

Stephen Lang Civil War Drama Gettysburg 1863

Stephen Lang ("Avatar", "Don't Breathe") has joined the cast of the upcoming indie war drama "Gettysburg 1863". The film also stars Shannon Lucio ("Prison Break"), Eric Nelsen ("1883"), Jake Busey ("Stranger Things"), Bruce Boxleitner ("Tron"), Samuel Roukin ("Turn"), Drew Seltzer ("Mindhunter"), Hannah Galway ("Billy the Kid"), Emma Halleen ("American Horror Story"), Kayla Anjali ("The Pitt"), and Alfonso Freeman, son of Morgan Freeman.

Lang previously starred as Major General George Pickett in New Line's epic Civil War movie "Gettysburg" in 1993, and as confederate general Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson in the 2003 prequel "Gods and Generals". Boxleitner also starred in "Gods and Generals" as Lieutenant General James Longstreet.

The film "reexamines the Battle of Gettysburg through an intimate, character-driven lens. Rather than focusing on spectacle alone, the film centers on the human cost of war, told through the experiences of soldiers, civilians, and leaders caught in a pivotal moment in American history."

The plot focuses on a local Gettysburg family navigating the chaos of war, the moral crossroads of the Underground Railroad, and the struggles of a Union soldier torn between duty and compassion. Lang will play John L. Burns, an elderly resident who famously fought alongside Union soldiers and was wounded multiple times. He later met Abraham Lincoln and became a national symbol of courage and patriotism.

Filming is underway on location in and around Gettysburg in collaboration with the Gettysburg Film Commission and is working with local historians and preservation groups. Bo Brinkman's Cactus Films is producing alongside Kris Webb and Ken Schwenker. Brinkman is also directing from his own screenplay.
