Channing Tatum ("Magic Mike"), Oscar Isaac ("Ex Machina") and Zazie Beetz ("Atlanta") are set to star in the crime drama "Kockroach" based on the novel by William Lashner, who wrote it under the pen name Tyler Knox. The novel is described as a re-imagining of Kafka's 1915 novella "The Metamorphosis".
The film tells the story of a mysterious outsider who rises through New York's underworld, building a criminal empire and becoming a powerful crime boss while challenging the city's established criminal hierarchy.
Matt Ross ("Captain Fantastic") will direct from a screenplay by Jonathan Ames ("Bored to Death"). Andrew Lazar ("American Sniper") is producing under his Mad Chance production banner. Principal photography is expected to begin in January in Australia. Black Bear will represent the international rights while CAA Media Finance and Range Select will co-represent U.S. rights.
Tatum can next be seen in Derek Cianfrance's "Roofman", and he recently wrapped Marvel Studios and Disney's "Avengers: Doomsday". Isaac stars in Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein", which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. Beetz will also star alongside Liev Schreiber and Stephen Graham in a new series for Apple TV+ based on Lars Kepler's crime novels.
