Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt to Star in Martin Scorsese's Upcoming Hawaii-Set Crime Film

Leonardo Dicaprio Dwayne Johnson Emily Blunt Martin Scorsese New Film

Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are attached to star in an upcoming crime film directed by Martin Scorsese. Based on an original idea by Johnson and Blunt, the film is currently being shopped to studios and streamers.

The project has been described as a Hawaii-set combination of "The Departed" and "Goodfellas", and will be written by British-American journalist, author, and filmmaker Nick Bilton, who helmed the 2021 HBO documentary "Fake Famous".

Based on an untold true story, the film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. In 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands' most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land.

Scorsese, Johnson, Blunt, DiCaprio, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette and Rick Yorn will produce. Johnson and Blunt, who previously worked together on "Jungle Cruise", brought the project to Scorsese and DiCaprio, and once they expressed interest, they all went to Bilton to ask him about writing.

Johnson will reteam with Blunt on the Benny Safdi-directed "Smashing Machine", which will be released later this year. Meanwhile, DiCaprio and Scorsese are also working together on an adaptation of "The Devil in the White City".
