"The Punisher" and "The Walking Dead" star Jon Bernthal has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's Ancient Greek epic poem "The Odyssey". The film has been described by Universal as being "a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology". Filming is expected to begin next month. The release date has been set for July 17, 2026.
It is unknown who Bernthal will be playing. The cast already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o and Charlize Theron. The poem tells the story of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, exploring themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning and the struggle against divine will.
Bernthal recently won an Emmy for his role on FX's "The Bear". He is set to reprse the role of Frank Castle aka The Punisher the new Marvel series "Daredevil: Born Again". He will also star opposite Ben Affleck in "The Accountant 2", and in Netflix's "His & Hers" alongside Tessa Thompson.
