Jason Momoa To Play Lobo In SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW

Jason Momoa To Play Lobo In Supergirl Woman Of Tomorrow

"Aquaman" star Jason Momoa is set to rejoin the DC Comics universe, this time as Lobo in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow". The actor was rumored to be attached to the Lobo role since before James Gunn came aboard to reboot the DC cinematic universe alongside Peter Safran, and has been vocal about his interest in the part.

Today, Momoa has confirmed his attachment to the role in a post on Instagram: "I collect comics, and I don't do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I'm like, 'Hello? It's the perfect role'". Alongside the Instagram screenshot, Momoa posted a caption this morning that reads: "They called."

Created by writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen, Lobo is often depicted as a bounty hunter with superhuman strength and regenerative abilities who enjoys chaos and destruction, an antihero known for his violent and irreverent personality, who hails from the planet Czarnia. He was first introduced in Omega Men #3 in June 1983.

Plot details for the "Supergirl" movie are under wraps. Milly Alcock ("House of the Dragon") was cast in the lead role and Matthias Schoenaerts is on board as villain Krem of the Yellow Hill. Eve Ridley also recently joined the cast as Ruthye Mary Knolle.

The film is directed by Craig Gillespie ("I, Tonya", "Dumb Money") from a script by Ana Nogueira based on Tom King's 2022 comic book series "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow". Gunn and Safran will produce, with Chantal Nong executive producing. Production is expected to start on January 13th, 2025.

Momoa can next be seen in "A Minecraft Movie", which opens on April 4, 2025, and the live-action/animated "Animal Friends" from Legendary. He will also appear in "Fast X: Part 2", the Apple miniseries "Chief of War", and Amazon MGM's "The Wrecking Crew" opposite Dave Bautista.
