With "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" expected to be a big hit for Paramount Pictures this weekend, the studio is already hard at work for a new sequel, "Sonic the Hedgehog 4", with intentions to release it in Spring 2027.
Obviously, it's very early in the process, so there are no plot details available. Jeff Fowler has directed all three "Sonic the Hedgehog" films, so it's reasonable to assume he will probably also helm the fourth one. Ben Schwartz will no doubt return to voice the titular character in the fourth film, and he'll probably be joined by series veterans James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.
"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" brings back Jim Carrey as both the villainous Dr. Ivo Robotnik, and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. It also features the voices of Idris Elba, Colleen O'Shaughnessey and Keanu Reeves, who plays Shadow the Hedgehog.
Internationally, the third installment is set to open in 52 markets on Christmas. The reviews have been on the positive side (85% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes). Together, the first two films have earned a combined global box office total of $725.2 million, as well as over $180 million from home video purchases. The series also spawned a spinoff Paramount+ series, "Knuckles", which came out earlier this year.
