The story is said to have a sci-fi twist and similar in tone to the works of Adrian Lyne ("9½ Weeks", "Fatal Attraction") and Alex Garland ("Ex Machina", "Civil War").
This isn't Paik's only short story to become a coveted project. "Reawakening", published by Six by Eight Press, was set up at Amazon as a series with Lena Waithe executive producing, also after a competitive situation. Another short story, "Rainbowfish", was set up at Warners.
Powell can next be seen in the thriller "Huntington" opposite Margaret Qualley, Edgar Wright's "The Running Man" opposite Josh Brolin, J.J. Abrams' mystery Warner Bros movie opposite Jenna Ortega, Hulu's comedy "Chad Powers", and more.
Paik is writing "The Bombshell Bandit", based on the BBC article, for Amazon MGM Studios and Atlas, with Priyanka Chopra attached to star. He will also make his feature directing debut with "Windowshopper", based on his short story.
