Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are in early talks to return for a new installment of the "Meet the Parents" franchise, which is currently in development at Universal Pictures.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. Franchise writer John Hamburg is set to write the screenplay. No director is attached at this point. Jane Rosenthal and De Niro are returning to produce through Tribeca Productions, along with series helmer Jay Roach through Delirious Media. Stiller and John Lesher will also produce through Red Hour Films.
Executive Vice President of Production Development Matt Reilly and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio.
The original "Meet the Parents" grossed over $330 million worldwide, becoming the seventh highest grossing film globally in 2000. The sequels "Meet the Fockers" (2004) and "Little Fockers" (2010) were also box office successes. The franchise grossed a total of over $1.13 billion.
De Niro can next be seen starring in Barry Levinson's crime drama "Alto Knights" on March 21, and Netflix's political thriller "Zero Day". Stiller's upcoming projects include the true-crime film "Belly of the Beast" opposite Colin Farrell, the pickleball comedy "The Dink" and "Happy Gilmore 2". Polo is set to star in the dramedy "Relative Control" and the supernatural thriller "The Evilry" opposite Faye Dunaway.
