The horror sequel "Smile 2" out-paced expectations and topped the box-office charts over the weekend, overtaking last week's #1 movie "Terrifier 3". The romantic drama "We Live in Time" has expanded nationwide and made it into the Top 5.

"Smile 2" opened in first place with $23 million from 3,619 theaters. The first film opened with $22.6 million in 2022. Overseas it adds another $23 million for a global debut of $46 million against a budget of $28 million. The film received a warm reception from critics (85% on Rotten Tomatoes), but the audience reception is lukewarm ("B" CinemaScore).
The animated film "The Wild Robot" is holding in second place with $10 million, down 27.9% from the previous frame. The film has now grossed a total of $101.7 million domestically and $95.5 million internationally. That's $197.2 million worldwide.
Last week's champion, "Terrifier 3" dropped to #3 in its sophomore weekend and grossed $9.3 million, a 50.9% decline from its debut. The film has now grossed $36.2 million domestically, and adds another $5.4 million from foreign markets.
"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" is still going strong, grossing $5 million, a soft 31.7% decline from last week. After seven weeks in theaters, the film has grossed an impressive $283.9 million in North America, and a less impressive, but not bad $150.1 million overseas. The worldwide total now stands at $434 million.
The Top 5 is rounded out by A24's acclaimed romantic drama "We Live in Time" starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. The film added 980 screens over the weekend and grossed $4.1 million from a total of 985 screens, which is really impressive.
