The new DC Extended Universe installment will once again star Zachary Levi as the adult superhero version of teenager Billy Batson (Asher Angel). Mirren will play Hespera, daughter of the god Atlas, who will be the film's main villain. They are joined by newcomer Rachel Zegler (Spielberg's "West Side Story") who, sources say, will play Hespera's sister.
"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" will be released in June 2023. Peter Safran is producing through The Safran Company.
Mirren is also set to reprise her role as Magdalene "Queenie" Shaw in "F9: The Fast Saga", and also stars in the upcoming Amazon anthology series "Solos".
